Dealing with Ex-Boyfriends and Home Security

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Does this scenario seem familiar? You start out dating someone who you think is cute, funny and charming and soon find out that they are actually just the opposite? Ex-boyfriends can be quite a nuisance when they want to be, especially ones that are more dangerous and abusive.

Breaking things off with a boyfriend who is controlling can be a scary prospect. This is especially true for someone who perhaps has already been physically, emotionally, or even sexually abused by a controlling boyfriend. That is why is is important to keep safety measures in place to protect you from getting hurt by him again.

The first step in breaking things off with a boyfriend is to let your friends help you and support you. Ask them to come over to your home when you decide to break things off. This will not only protect you from physical harm at the moment, but will let him know that you have a support system in place so he better not try to pull any funny business during the break up.

After the break up be smart about home security. If they were controlling there is a good chance they may have made copies of your keys. Be sure to change the locks of your home.

Also, if you do not already have an alarm system installed, get one. Home security alarm systems can keep you safe from them breaking in to your home. Alarm systems monitor the activities of your home and will alert you if anyone tries to enter it. If you already have an alarm system installed, ask your security company to change the code.

Other types of alarm systems can be put in place to give you an additional security level. Panic buttons can also be placed around your home. Many single women place panic buttons in their bedroom next to their bed. That way, if they are ever scared the alarm company can send in reinforcements.

Most of the time, if the boyfriend knows you are serious about breaking things off he will leave you alone. Having strong friends and influences in your life make it much harder for them to stick around. When you isolate yourself from others, that is when it is incredibly hard to keep him away from you.

If your ex will not leave you alone, do not try to take care of the problem on your own. Ask that the police get involved. Press charges, get a restraining order, and ask from help from friends to keep your ex-boyfriend from continuing to bother you.

Home Security: TV Sitcom VS Reality

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Sometimes I watch TV and just cringe. Why? Because I watch a sitcom and constantly realize the total lack of home security measures the characters of the show are showing.

Does this scenario sound familiar? The show opens up to one of the main characters sitting on a couch, watching TV or reading a book. Within a few moments the front door is opened by a good friend who has stopped by to visit with them.

TV shows aim to please. They aim to entertain an audience. Thousands of people watch these shows every week and are effected by their contents. Remember the hundreds of women who had to get the “Rachel” cut?

While I understand that TV shows are meant to entertain people, it can be hard to not be somewhat saddened by the total disregard for home security on many of these episodes. Home security measures can really help keep your home or apartment safe from possible harm. While home security does not necessarily mean you have to lock down your entire home, keeping the door locked is a safety measure that should be instilled in our minds.

Lets consider the once popular sitcom Friends. What home security measures did Monica ever take for her apartment? Or Chandler and Joey?

The answer is no. Friends were constantly going in and out of each others apartments, with no need for locks. This is highly unbelievable, considering New York, where the sitcom was situated, had a very high crime rate at the time.

Why do these shows disregard safety? I am coming to believe that it all has to do with what is important to pull the TV shows forward and timing. There just is not enough time in the shows to show characters fiddling with keys, locking and unlocking doors, or setting alarm systems.

Just because TV does not often show safety measures in your home does not mean you need to follow their example. Keep your home protected by contacting security professionals to install a top-of-the-line wireless security alarm, or up to date locks for your home. Utilize smart safety measures for your home and you will not be disappointed.

Adding Extra Security To Your Home With Glass Break Detectors

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Security systems have many different parts that make it work correctly. There are many different ways you can protect your home from invasion, and security systems are the best tools to do the job. Security systems have home alarm systems, smoke and heat detectors, gas detectors, panic buttons, and more accessories that monitor your home to keep your home safe.

Security systems use the home protection tools such as home alarm systems, smoke and heat detectors, and gas detectors. Security systems also have an alarm system known as a glass break detector. The alarm listens for the sound that shattered glass makes to alert you of a break in.

Glass detectors can also be called audio discriminators. They tune in to the specific sound frequency that glass makes. When the glass breaks, the specific sound frequency is heard by the alarm and it goes off.

Security systems use glass break detectors as an additional security measure. They work well with motion detector alarm systems. You can use glass break monitors near windows and glass doors.

Glass detectors can be put in different areas of your home. It is best to place them in an area with a lot of windows, since they cover a 35 foot radius. Living rooms are a popular choice to place them.

There are two types of audio discriminators on the market: single technology and duel technology. The single technology glass detector tunes in to the sound of breaking glass. Duel technology is a more advanced form of detector, which can also listen to the thud that happens before the window breaks.

Single technology uses the tool of listening for sounds of glass breaking or wood breaking. That way, if a burglar were entering in to your home by breaking a window the alarm would hear it and it would turn on. Single technology glass detectors, however, does have the drawback that it can sometimes go off when non threatening things happen to it, so be careful where you place the alarm in your home.

Duel technology uses the same capabilities that single technology has, but simply adds to it. It listens to additional frequency of a thud or point of impact before hearing the wood cracking or glass shattering. That way there are not as many chances of a false alarm since it will be able to tell the difference between a burglar trying to pry open the window with a crowbar and a couple clanging glasses together during a toast.

Why Security Systems are Necessary

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Rising crime rates can have us nervous about our home security. Property crime is rising along with the rest of the statistics, and is steadily becoming the largest crime happening in America. Because of this security systems are rising in popularity.

Security systems protect both your family and your home from harm. Everyone wants their homes to be a refuge they can go to. Owning a home security system helps you achieve this.

Security systems give your home a much higher chance of not being burglarized, and keeps your family members out of harms way. Homes with out security systems will quickly find themselves targets to property crimes. We often live with a false sense of security.

It is natural to be concerned about the safety of your family. It is normal to want to protect your property and keep it from being vandalized or stolen. That is why an alarm system is so important.

Statistics have shown that a home without an alarm is broken in to twice as often as those that do have a system in place. A lot of burglaries happen during the day while you are at work, but sometimes they happen during the day while you are at home. They also can break in to your home during the night while you are home and vulnerable.

Having an alarm system allows your home to be safe any time of the day. Your home will be monitored by a security company at all times. This can be a good reassurance to your home security when you know that if a serious threat does arise someone will be there to alert professional emergency help.

Burglars stay away from homes with alarm systems. The brave ones that choose to try to break in to a home usually run away once the alarm is triggered. An alarm also gives you the time to get to your family members and get them out of harms way if someone breaks in to your home.

Families can really benefit from using home alarm systems. The feeling of living in a secure home can keep your home the refuge you want it to be. Make your home security a priority by installing an alarm system in your home today.

More Safety Measures Women Can Take When Living Alone

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Home security alarm systems are a great security measure for any women. Women who live alone especially have an important need for sound home security. Safety in numbers is not just a popular saying. Single women are targets to unruly characters.

As mentioned in the article written earlier this month, women need to take precautions for her safety while at home. While security systems in her home add a great dimension for her home security, she should also take steps to increase her home security by alluding that she is not living alone. One way to do this is to not leave personalized messages on your answering machine, but rather using the automated voice. Leave personal messages for your cell phone.

You never know who is accessing your information. Be smart about the information you give out to the general public. It is important not to list phone numbers and addresses online that someone can easily use against you.

Self defense classes can come in handy in case you are attacked. You can also protect yourself by taking self defense classes. It also teaches you safety principles so that you do not put yourself in situations where you become a victim in the first place.

It is important to never give out personal information to anyone you have met online. Online dating and chatting can be very dangerous. If you do decide to take the risk and meet them, be sure you meet up somewhere public where a lot of other people will be.

If possible, have a friend tag along with you to a public place to meet anyone you have met online. Then, let other family members and friends know about your meeting and have them give you a call at least once during your date. The phone call can be good to check up on your safety, and to let them know exactly where you are at the time, who you are with, and when you will be home. Then your date will know that someone knows where you are.

Use buddy systems. If you have other friends that live alone, help each other out. Work out together or run errands with one another so you do not do these types of things alone.

Professional security measures such as alarm systems will go a long way to keep your home safe. Using extra safety precautions will not only help you make smart choices with your home security, but also your personal safety as well. Be sure to use other security measures around your home, such as strong locks, outdoor lighting, and alarm systems.

Safety on College Campus

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Home safety is important at any time of life. Just because you are living in an apartment and going to college does not mean you should forget basic home safety skills. Here are a few suggestions on ways to improve your personal and home safety while at school. Home safety starts by following your instincts. If you do not feel right about something, or feel it is not safe, it probably isn’t. Don’t go there. There is safety in numbers, which is why dorm mates are important. Don’t go to parties or activities alone. Be aware of possible dating scenarios that can happen. Be smart about the people you date.

Even at college there is safety in numbers. A good home safety tip is to have a dorm mate at least if you do not want to share a room with someone else. Keep dates safe by only dating those you have gotten to know first. Don’t drink excessive alcohol and be aware of the possibility of “date rape drugs”. Don’t leave your drink unattended. Let a trusted friend know where you are going and when you expect to return. Walk with confidence and keep your keys handy. If you’re followed, cross the street or run to an occupied house or store.

They could even give you a call midway through the date to check up on your safety if needs be. This is especially true on first dates. Basic home safety knowledge are also important in apartments. Lock your doors and windows when you leave and when you go to sleep. If you have older locks, ask your landlord to replace them with a good quality lock to keep your safe. Be careful of places where potential attackers or burglars could hide. Keep outside lights on so you can easily see outside before you open the door and walk out. Peep holes in your door are also a good idea.

Have plenty of light. Use caution when answering the door, especially for strangers. Women should only use their last name and first initial on mailboxes or in phone directories. Use caution when posting personal information on the Internet or around campus. Don’t pick up hitchhikers when driving. Keep car windows up and doors locked and park in well-lit areas. Keep a cell phone with you for emergencies.

Lastly, be smart in your choice with sororities or fraternities that you join. Use good judgement. Avoid the type of groups that will expect your to do dangerous or illegal initiations.

Modern Technology Keeps Homes and Businesses Safer

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Crime statistics show that crime is still on the rise. Home burglaries, property crimes and invasions are continuing to happen frequently. Thousands of dollars are continuing to be stolen by thieves in businesses and homes around the nation.

People have started to fight back against these attacks. More and more people are installing home security systems in their homes, and business security systems in their businesses. When you have a lot at stake, having your home monitored by security professionals is an easy choice to make.

There are a variety of types of security systems that can be used to protect your home or business. Many people like what a video alarm surveillance system offers. They offer many advantages to the owner of the home or business.

There are different types of video surveillance to choose from. Mini spy cameras, wireless cameras, and night vision cameras are only a few of the many types of cameras that can be used to monitor your home or business. It is important to use the right type of camera at your location.

For example, you would normally need to use a wide-lens camera if you are trying to video record a wide area like a convenience store. If you are only recording the front entrance of your home you wouldn’t need a wide-lens camera. It is also a good idea to advertise that you are recording their actions to deter them from doing criminal activities on your premises.

This will alert people that you are watching them and help them decide to not do criminal activities at your establishment. While this can be a great way of deterring criminals from doing a crime, having an alarm security system in place will catch them if they do decide to follow through with a crime. An alarm security system will alert you when a crime happens.

Thanks to modern technology we are able to be instantly alerted when there is a break in. There are now glass break sensors that detect when a thief breaks through a window. There are also motion detectors that sense movement the second someone passes in front of it.

Meet with a security professional to see what choices you have for your home security or business security. Security companies will be able to help you come up with a good security plan. They also have the best up to date information regarding the types of technology that is available for home security.

Safeguarding Your Home Against Gas Leaks

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

A great safeguard to take for your home is to install a gas detector alarm system. Gas leaks in a home can be very dangerous. This danger is not only for your home and possessions, but especially for all family members.

Gas leaks can be fatal if not caught quick enough. Natural gas is nearly impossible to detect. It naturally is odorless, and there is no way to tell if a gas leak has occurred.

To help protect against incidents happening, gas companies put a strong smell in their gas so individuals can recognize there is a gas leak. While this has helped many people, smell alone is not a good enough protection against every situation. Other safety precautions should be taken to ensure your safety in case of a leak.

Gas detectors can be bought separately or in connection with a home alarm system. In either case, a skilled security professional or electrician should be the one installing the gas detector. Gas detectors are becoming more and more popular.

Gas detector alarm systems are all sensitive to gas, though some are more sensitive than others. They use lower explosive limit, or LEL, to determine the alarm’s sensitivity to gas. The lower the LEL, the more sensitive the alarm will be.

Normally the more sensitive the alarm the better. However, if you do not want the alarm to go off every time you light a match then it is best to find one with the right degree of sensitivity. Place the detector near your gas lines where they need to be the most sensitive.

When it goes off you need to leave your home immediately. It is important to not take any risks, but let your security company take care of calling for help. The closer the alarm system is to the gas leak, the sooner it will alert you of any gas problems.

Take extra safeguards for your home’s protection by installing a gas leak detector alarm system. A gas leak is dangerous when breathed in by family members. It is also a serious concern for your actual home since it can cause a fire or explosion.

Home Security Maintenance

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Buying a home security system is an important decision for you and your family. There’s a lot of alarms available on the market, and alarm companies are always willing to talk about the bells and whistles that come with each of their home alarms. While buying a home security system is a process in and of itself, it’s important to understand the steps that come after you decide to buy an alarm.

Choosing a security code and password for your new alarm is the first thing you should do after your security system has been installed. An alarm password can be anything you want it to be as long as it’s memorable for everyone in your family and for anyone you give access to your home. Monitoring stations that monitor your alarm are picky about correct passwords.

You can adjust and customize your security system to your heart’s content. From messaging centers to entry and exit delays, your alarm panel can be tweaked so that your security system fits your needs. Make sure you’re comfortable with your alarm settings or you’ll have to deal with false alarms down the road-a pleasant experience for no one.

Security system maintenance can be performed by yourself at home or by a home security professional. However you decide to maintain your system, make sure you contact both your alarm company and your monitoring station to make sure you’re performing the maintenance.

Home security systems, for the most part, are well worth the investment. They are easy to install and really require little upkeep. However, a home security system is only as good as you make it. Taking the time to become familiar with your alarm, adjust it so you feel comfortable with the settings, and learn how to maintain it, can make sure your home protection is upgraded and you have the peace of mind you deserve.
