Swimming Pool Trends You Can Rely On

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

If you are lucky enough to already have a pool on your property, why not revitalize it by adding a few modern features? On the other hand, if you have budgeted to afford the installation of an in-ground pool, consider some of the latest enhancements to your design. By including interesting characteristics, such as fiber optic lighting or a water fountain, you can add a few dollars to the resale value of your property. Plus, in the meantime, you and your family get to enjoy it all.

Saltwater Pools

The use of saltwater, instead of freshwater, in a swimming pool has been around for a long time, only now becoming more popular. Homeowners like salt water pools for the natural factor – there are no chemicals added to the water. The pool is filled with freshwater, a special salt cell system is used and salt is added to the water. As the salt dissolves and the water runs through the cell, the salt molecule is split into chlorine and sodium. The result is clean water that will not burn eyes, discolor hair or stain fabric. When the pool is drained, there are no harmful chemicals released into the environment; in fact, the water can even be safely drunk. The start up costs are a little higher, but the maintenance costs are much less than traditional freshwater pools.

Beach Entries

For those who are constructing a brand new pool on their property, consider a beach style entry. Despite the name, this type of pool entry does not include sand. It refers to a gradual sloping walkway into the pool. With each step the swimmer moves deeper into the water. This is a wonderful feature for those who find entering a pool troublesome, such as the elderly or physically disabled. Families with young children will also appreciate a beach entry to the pool as they can gently walk into the water holding an adult’s hand instead of being carried down a ladder or steps.

Water Fountains

Fountains and rock waterfalls that feed into your pool are a great way to ambiance to the pool area. There are several other benefits as well. The gentle sound of running water creates a sound barrier, which will in turn give you some privacy in the pool. Conversations are not as easily overheard by nosy neighbors. The constant flow of water through a fountain or waterfall into your pool also helps to keep the water clean. The water is constantly moving, preventing stagnant areas from developing. These water features can be very simple or very elaborate. If you have an existing pool, a fountain or waterfall can be added depending on the size and shape of your pool.

Lighting

The technology enabling Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lighting has been around for over a century, but its practical use was not discovered until 2006. Since then, the LED market has exploded with these long lasting, durable light sources being used in almost any application – including the swimming pool. They are great for pool lighting simple because of their long life but also because they do not produce a lot of heat. Fiber Optic pool lighting is the most cutting edge light feature to hit the market. The effect is incredible with fiber optics. There are a multitude of colors to choose from, even color changing fiber optics that rotate through a set pattern.

Edging

No, not lawn edging or hedge edging- swimming pool edging! Many resorts and high-end hotels have opted for an infinity edge pool, and now the feature is becoming increasingly appealing to families designing their own pool. The infinity edge is constructed so that water flows over the side of the pool and is caught in a basin, much like a moat. The water is re-circulated through the pool, which in turn aids in keeping the water clean.

Specialty Features

This is a fairly broad category. As homeowners look for more bang for their buck they want their special needs met. For example, they may request a pool be constructed in a non-traditional shape in order to fit a certain area of the property. Or perhaps, the use of high-end glass tiles will be requested. Glass tiles are available in many colors and effects, all of which create a highly customized look to the pool. Pool decks are another area where special features care being asked for. For families with children, fences and locking gates are a popular demand. These safety features no longer need to be the mundane chain-link fence that ruins the look of the whole pool area. There are now opportunities to have nicely stylized wrought iron fences and gates, or beautiful custom wood barriers.

The world of residential swimming pools is so much more now than it was in the 1960’s, when the trend of privatized pools began. Chlorine treated water is no longer the only choice, lighting is far more dramatic and water features aren’t’ just for celebrities homes anymore. If you are considering an upgrade to your existing pool or want to put in a new one, take a look at all the new trends. There is a lot to choose from.

Points To Remember Regarding Home Security

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Having a house is a great accomplishment, and also a great responsibility. There are dangers hiding around every corner, and many things can go wrong that can bring financial disaster and destroyed health and happiness. That’s why home safety is an important issue that everybody should be familiar with. In this article, you’ll learn some basic home safety tips.

First of all, make sure your homeowners insurance policy is kept up to date. Many people tend to forget about this in tight financial times, but it can be your best friend in times of trouble. Depending on where you live, your policy should contain different things.

Fire is a huge danger, and precautions must be taken to make sure nothing happens. This means you should check the areas around all pilot lights, and make sure there is nothing that can catch fire. You wouldn’t want your house to burn down overnight.

Make sure all your doors have deadbolt locks. And make sure they use a different key from the main lock. That way you’ll be twice as safe. If somebody happens to get a hold of one of your keys, you’ll still be protected.

Another thing that is important is to make sure all your windows are secured. That means putting latches on the, or some kind of lock. If they slide horizontally, you can easily place a wooden rod inside the windowsill that can keep them from being opened from the outside. This will be a great way to keep the bad guys out.

An alarm system is also a good idea. Often times, having only a sticker warning of alarm protection is enough to convince burglars to choose another house. Security cameras are also an option. They are easy to install, and are inexpensive.

Because home safety is so important, it’s vital that you put these tips into practice. That way there will be less chance of something bad happening, which means you can stay safe and happy.

Natural, Chemical Free Swimming Pools Are Not Your Ordinary Ponds…

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

When constructing a swimming pool that runs on 25% of the water and energy needed to operate your typical pool you do not have to sacrifice beauty for sustainability or use any salt or regular chemicals. “Our natural, freshwater pools aren’t just planet friendly, they’re actually people friendly,” said Blake French of Millennium Pools in Austin, Texas.

“I estimate only 15 minutes per week for water testing and maintenance with an auto-vacuum and auto-cover. Pool buyers looking at cartridge filtered pool (touted as environmentally friendly) should know a chemical shock is needed on a cartridge pool to turn the human skin cells into vapor and the cartridge is the worst platform to recover the pool after a thunderstorm, dirt storm, hurricane, firestorm or even a pool party,” he added.

The cartridge filtered pool has a more frequent drain the entire pool probability as the total dissolved solids rise quicker per year than with sand, zeolite, glass or diatomaceous earth. “ECOsmarte has hundreds of sixteen year old pools that have never been drained, a claim no cartridge filter manufacturer can make,” said Jeremy Johnson, National Customer Service Manager for ECOsmarte based in Mpls., MN.

The use of dissolved O2 oxygen to oxidize bather oils and suntan lotions is the American green technology advantage. The platinum anode system uses 6 watts DC power and requires 6 to 10 hours of water circulation per day. “Compared to salt, chlorination, UV or ozone we use about 1/25 the power,” he added. Saving water and virtually eliminating chemicals depends on components only available through a select group of swimming pool builders, approximately 300 worldwide. “Our glass filter pools back wash for five minutes once every four to six weeks and the water is reused on the landscape. No water is wasted in our natural freshwater platform,” added Johnson.

The glass media is machined like sugar, sterilized and much harder than silica sand, the dominant filter media in the swimming pool industry since 1950. In 2006 ECOsmarte successfully switched to a 100% post consumer waste glass – a process so green and sustainable it will still be a number of years before green building experts score it correctly. The media has been certified to the NSF Standard 50 for public swimming pools by the NSF and ECOsmarte’s Glasspack is currently scheduled for additional listing by the Water Quality Association (WQA) to drinking water standards (NSF 61).

Millennium Pools uses NASA inspired technology to generate natural oxygen and low level copper to virtually eliminate chemicals and completely eliminate the chlorine. This build platform is only slightly more expensive than the use of a zero backwash cartridge filter and a salt to chlorine generator. According to Johnson, the freshwater, natural pool has even “wetter” water than the widely promoted salt pool chlorine generators “with 20,000 gallons of brine or chloride created no one should call a salt pool a natural pool. The backwash and swimmer splash alone kill all plant life near the pool,” he pointed out. “The cartridge filter only removes particles as small as 20 microns on its best day and human skin cells are approximately 9 microns in size, making the cartridge filter useless in removing human skin cells from the water. Humans can shed up to 1 billion skin cells every time they enter the water with very few of them removed by a cartridge.”

There are no limitations in shape or size when it comes to the Natural Pools offered by Millennium Pools, who has become the local standard for family fun and elegance.
With today’s web and video technology we can determine the type and style of pool a client is looking for by visiting just one or two pools versus our previous pool tour approach.

Surveillance Systems And Staying Safe

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

If knowledge is power, advanced knowledge is power to act instead of react. Surveillance Systems can help you do just that. History is rife with examples of people, businesses and governments trying to determine what others are up to. Today, the enemy is no longer clearly defined, and catastrophe may lurk anywhere, at any time. We trust others to protect us and to do that they need these kinds of tools.

The phenomenon of the Internet has crossed borders, nationalities, class and social boundaries. Nobody will naysay the incredible benefits offered, but like any other type of technology, the Internet has become a powerful tool in the hands of criminals.

Modern communications technology allows criminals and would be agitators cheap, easy to use ways to organize, coordinate and execute illegal activities. While strict laws protect the privacy of the average citizen, eavesdropping on suspected communication often saves lives and prevents damage to property. Cellular technology even allows for pinpointing the location of a user.

Surprisingly often, the solution to a criminal mystery is often the body of the perpetrator. DNA samples, fingerprints, photographs and voice recordings are all collected and stored in intricate databases. Matches between crime scenes and these records regularly lead to successful prosecutions. Law abiding citizens also benefit from more secure identification systems that minimize fraud and theft.

Surveillance from the sky is older than the history of the airplane. Centuries ago, pigeons were used to carry messages and later to take photographs of enemy territory. Satellite technology now provides very powerful analysis techniques that is so advanced that it boggles the brain. Detailed imagery provides data for military, agricultural and academic purposes, ensuring pro active feats.

There is even a field called corporate surveillance. This type of pursuit can have both benign and malignant intentions. For examples, a company may try to find information on the contracts, systems and technology of a rival. But it can also be used to gear marketing strategies, or to determine product loyalty. Employee habits may also be watched and emails monitored, but permission is required.

There are many different types of Surveillance Systems. Most are intended to ensure the freedom and safety of the vast majority of law abiding citizens, but, without a doubt, much of the watching being conducted is done with questionable intentions. However, the world will be vulnerable to evil if nobody keeps watch. Like it or not, but in the modern world, big brother has eyes and ears.

Keeping an eye on your property or business even when you aren’t physically present is possible when you use the proper surveillance systems. Learn more about security monitoring equipment and services to make an informed choice.

Swimming pools are a great asset to any home. It is a sure-fire way to increase the value of your home. It will provide good exercise for the entire family and hours of fun for children. Pool installation can be complicated and troublesome if not planned properly. There are different options for the structure of any pool. Pools can be made of fiberglass or concrete or can be lined with vinyl, ceramic, or stone.

Among the different types, vinyl-lined pools are the most affordable. Once the site has been excavated, the wall can be framed with steel, wood, polymer, or concrete. The floor can be made of concrete or packed sand. After the vinyl has been lined, the area should be backfilled before it can be filled with water. The vinyl lining is cheaper, but depending on usage, it will need to be refurbished every 10 years.

The fastest type of pools to install are fiberglass pools. It is also resistant to stains and algae. Since it comes as a one-piece product, it can be made into different shapes and sizes. When installing a fiberglass pool, it is important to have an area where it can be stored before it can be fit into the excavation. Installation also involves the use of a crane to lift and drop it into the designated area.

Though it will take weeks to install, concrete pools are the most common and are usually finished with porcelain or ceramic tiles. Latest trend now have concrete pools also finished with glass tiles or natural stone. Those that are merely concrete-finished will need to be resurfaced every 10 years.

After considering the type and design of your pool, you should now look into the type of maintenance you would want. There are now new technologies that can make you do away with chemical treatments. You may consider automated cleaning systems that can make maintenance easier. Finally, decide on a good contractor that has a solid reputation for installing swimming pools. The Importance Of Using A Photo Frame

Monday, February 21st, 2011

Invented to decorate paintings, ancestral portraits and exquisite embroidery, frames have progressed since then to becoming one of the most used interior design items with the advent of photography. With the resulting volumes of pictures people needed to put on show led to many innovative people making Photo Frame on a large scale.

Today the manufacture of frames is big business globally and one would need to travel far to find a home without any frames in it. Companies are now producing well made wood, metal, plastic or aluminum frames in all sizes and shapes from the traditional to special occasion shapes such as hearts for wedding photographs.

Fine china and porcelain frames are also popular and are often decorated with specific designs for events such as an arrival of a new baby. When shopping for a frame one can get bogged down by the sheer volume of choice and a person may find it easier to follow a few basic rules.

Where and how the picture will be displayed, the decor of the room and whether there is a theme to follow, the size of the photograph and lighting. Even though photographs are covered with non-reflective glass, one does not want direct sunlight or heavy artificial light shinning on it.

Often one has a special photo that should be professionally framed. Framing outlets today are staffed with people who have the technical knowledge and artistic ability to guide one in choosing an appropriate frame and mounting boards to complement the photograph.

Any framed photo in a room will tend to be a focal point and draw one’s eye repeatedly whenever a person enters the room. When buying a ready made frame one would want to be sure that it is sturdy and well made. An inferior metal product can tarnish and a flimsy, badly made wooden frame may not stand up to day to day wear and tear.

The computer age has allowed framing companies to offer an online service that presents prospective clients with the opportunity of viewing the products in the comfort of their homes. It is possible for a person to now place a picture online inside a variety of frames to help one to decide what to buy.

Photographs are tangible memories of one’s life and a person would want to ensure they are preserved and displayed at their best in a suitable Photo Frame.

Things To Consider In Home Alarm Systems

Sunday, February 20th, 2011

For many people when they want to have the protection of their home it could be a challenge that they are going to face. However, if a person wants to do this properly they should know that it is going to be even harder because the criminal element has started to become smarter in the way that they are breaking into homes. That is going to be a major issue for many people when they are looking at the ways, but for some people that do not want to get a guard dog they may see that it could lead to them needing to know what to look for in home alarm systems. Once they know what to look for in these they are going to see that it is rather easy to find the proper one for the needs they have.

Before looking into these a home owner should think about how much their budget can absorb in the cost each month. By doing this a home owner will see if they can afford to have a service that requires a fee or if they will have to deal with just a basic service without having the ongoing protection.

One item to consider is what emergencies the service will be overseeing. For some of these a person may notice that they are going to offer Carbon Monoxide, Fire, and Burglary protection. So a person needs to find out what exactly they are going to be getting for the amount of money they are paying.

Another thing to look at is if a contract is going to be required for the services. At times a person may see that the company is going to require a contract for them to service the house. However, these could lead to a person being locked into the deal even if the system does not live up to the promises that it has made.

Something that a person should think about is if the service will be voice or blaring sound. For many individuals when they hear a voice unexpectedly they will stop what they are doing, but if they just hear a loud blaring sound they will only speed up what they were doing and then they will quickly leave the place.

Some of these systems are even going to contact the services that are needed to help out. So an individual needs to find out if the company that they choose is going to help by contacting the proper service or if they are going to just rely on the neighbors or passer-bys calling in the authorities.

A person needs to think about the location that the monitors are going to be put in. This is an important consideration because if they are not installed in the proper region then a person may not have any luck of them being tripped. Then the criminals could easily come into the homes and take whatever they want to.

When a criminal is going to be breaking into a home they will target the homes that are easy to get into. That is when an individual should be aware of the things that they need to be looking for in the home alarm systems Toronto to ensure that the house is protected properly.

With AARtech you know that you can get the proper security systems Toronto and the proper home alarm systems Toronto to keep your home and family safe.

How Do Infrared Home Security Cameras Work?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

Infrared security cameras are very useful when protecting your home and its surroundings. They provide you the ability to safeguard your home in the nights even when there is no proper lighting.

An infrared camera uses infrared light to produce better images in the night when there is low or no lighting. This method of surveillance is very popular in suburban areas where there is room for thefts as the distance between houses is wider.

The infrared illuminator acts as the main source of light which will amplify images seen from the camera. Because of the infrared illuminator things we see in the dark are clearer.
This allows us to see the perpetrator in order to identify him.

Infrared surveillance cameras provide a myriad of benefits to homeowners. Because infrared surveillance cameras are equipped with their own built in light supply in the form of LEDs, no other type of lighting is required. Therefore, they can be installed anywhere without the consideration of a light source, making it more convenient than that of other surveillance cameras.

They are also waterproof and this means you will be able to hide them just about anywhere outdoors and not have a burglar notice the camera. In addition, because of the IR illuminators the rays can penetrate through any obstacles such as smoke and haze. This is an excellent device which can benefit many homeowners who live near the coastal areas. The infrared surveillance camera will be able to identify any burglar through the mist that rises from the sea.

As there are many different types of infrared surveillance cameras available, one should be careful with what they purchase. Not all surveillance cameras are created equal when it comes to quality and there are various features to choose from as well. Homeowners should do a bit of research and consider their security needs before making the purchase.

Decorating With A Clip Frame

Sunday, February 13th, 2011

A clip frame, also called a “frameless frame, ” is just what it sounds like. It is a piece of plastic or glass, a backing of some kind, and the clips that hold them together. Your document, photograph, or poster is placed between the clear piece and the backing. Clip frames are wonderful items to use as decoration, particularly if you are on a budget.

The frame itself is the bulk of most picture frames and costs the most to manufacture. Therefore, these frameless varieties are typically much less expensive. Consequently, they are ideal for any decorating project that has a tight budget. They provide a quality look without such a high cost.

They also come in a range of sizes. For any purpose, and no matter what you need them for, there is a size to fit the job. Obviously, this makes them quite versatile for use in decorating. It allows you to display any size of photo, poster, or whatever else.

Clip frames also come constructed of different materials, which can fit different purposes. Plastic is durable, lightweight, and safer than glass. Of course, glass is less durable and heavier, but it can look more high quality. Glass is great for a space such as a formal dining room, whereas plastic is perfect as a decoration in a kid’s bedroom or anywhere else where glass isn’t the best idea.

These frames are perfect for many different decorative purposes. To display a photo or poster without taking anything away from the central image, these are wonderful because they have no frames. They are also ideal for some more creative uses, such as displaying dried flowers or other materials. They will provide protection just like any normal frame, but they will allow you to achieve a frameless look.

These frames are also versatile in the sense that they match almost any decor. They are the ideal choice for minimalist or contemporary design schemes. They also blend right in with almost any other type of decor, since it is basically just a clear piece of material. The decorative focus is placed upon the image inside, instead of on the frame itself.

If you’re looking for an attractive and cost-effective decorating solution, try clip frames. They match almost anything and are versatile in multiple ways. They are available in many different sizes and types, so they can fit nearly any particular set of needs.
