Monday, March 8th, 2010

Belts have been in use since the Bronze Age. It was mainly male clothing item until around the middle ages even then it was not until the early 20th century that belts became a common item for women to wear. For men also belts were generally associated with uniforms such as the military and police uniforms.

Leather and cloth were used in the early days of belt manufacturing and ultimately it was used to hold up ones clothing. Belts can also be worn to follow a certain trend or fashion statement. It comes down to how, when and what type of belt is worn. As far as the armed forces go, belts were worn in such a way so that it gave the wearer a physically fit look. It was accomplished by wearing the belt very tight and “sucking” the waist line in. The Biggest change in belt fashion started happening in the 1920’s and 30’s. Sagging trousers came into fashion around this time and therefore the waistline of pants also came down, therefore the need of belts became more.

The trend in the waistline of pants was the beginning of wide spread use of the belt and that trend slowly made its way to women’s clothes, by the 1950′ women started to wear pants regularly and then it was only a matter of time that belts became a fashion accessory. But that is not the only use for belts; they can also be used for utility purposes like the ones worn by cops and construction personnel.

One need not be a fashion aficionado to see the huge variety of belts that are available on the market today. Belts are treated and looked at according to what type it is and who is wearing it. High Heeled Shoes

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

The projection at the back of a shoe is called a heel. It is the part just below the wearer’s heel bone. The balance of the shoes is mainly improved by the use of the shoe heel. Heels are at times also used for decorative purposes. The high heel is a common feature in a certain type of shoe which is extremely popular today. High heeled shoes are mostly worn by women, but at times by men too.

The journey of the high heels began long back. It is not a modern invention. They have had a history which is very different. It is a controversy as to when the high heels came into existence. But, it is widely agreed that heels have been worn by both men and women all over the world for various purposes and reasons.

The use of high heeled shoes has been depicted in the ancient Egyptian murals which can be seen on the tombs and in their temples. The earliest instance of men and women using high heeled shoes came in the classical times. Around the 1500s, it was fashionable amongst men to use high heeled shoes. It all began with a need to prevent slipping f feet from the stirrups when riding. High heels were used for this. There was an increase in use of high heels by men which continued till the French Revolution. It again came up in the 1970’s and in the modern times also.

In 1533, it was during the wedding of Catherine de’ Medici with the Duke of Orleans that the first officially recorded instance of use of high heels was noted. She wore high heels to her wedding. But, in the late 18th century, a trend of lower heels came through. This was because of the French Revolution. High heels were associated with wealth and opulence during the revolution. Hence, to avoid this look of luxury, the use of heels was reduced and the heels were kept at bay in the markets.

What every woman loves and what almost every woman has would be a pair of high heels. Women all across the globe love high heeled shoes and high heeled pumps. This type of footwear raises the heel of the wearer to a height above the toes. This gives an illusion of the legs looking longer, more slender and more toned. High heels come in a large range of colors, material, etc, like the classic black heels, the chic white heels and also the spectacular red heels.

Cowboy Boots Are The Hottest Thing In Fashion

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Boots have been used for many centuries especially for riding horses. In its early day boots were hand made and there were many different styles. The styles were dictated according to what country they came from. As far as cowboy boots go they were mainly influence by the Spanish vaquero style that goes back to 16th century. This style of cowboy boots is still used in Mexico by the ranchers.

When the industrial revolution came about in the 19th century, making of boots in large quantities became a reality. It was now easy to mass produce certain varieties of the boot and that was first done for the military. There was a design called the Hessian boot which was used by various cavalry forces in Europe and this style also ultimately influenced the cowboy boot. In the Early part of the 19th century cowboys were underpaid so a cheap style knows as the “Wellington” was manufactured for them.

But after the 1860’s the salary of cowboys rose because of the rise in price of meat. This enabled them to purchase more stylized and better quality boots than the Wellington, and after that it was only a matter of time before the Wellingtons became obsolete. It was during this time that the “classic” cowboy boot with a higher heel better stitching had come about.

This design change first happened in the American states of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. As mentioned before cowboy boots were designed with horse riding in mind so the heels were generally smooth so as to be able to get on and ride horses easier. In the 20th century cowboy boots found their way to the wardrobes of people who had no intention of riding horses or being cowboys, that was when the cowboy boot became just another fashion accessory.

Boots nowadays are a very popular item and have gone through various changes over the decades, but the basic design concept remains unchanged. Cow boy boots are now rarely designed with cowboys in mind and all sorts of designs are available in the market especially with women in mind. One such example is the red cowboy boots and various other colored designs.

How Did Clothing Get Its Start

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

The first use of clothes as a protective garment is a very old concept. Humans started wearing clothes to make them selves warmer but the first type of clothes that were used was very basic compared to nowadays. The beginning of clothes manufacturing was far more simple compared to nowadays consisting of objects like tree bark, leaves or animal fur.

When humans started to move from warmer to cooler climates wearing of such protection became a real need. But time passed and clothes were no longer just a means of protection. As time went by clothes took on a whole new meaning and began representing ones social status and it also became a symbol for ceremonies.

Through out the ages textile has been made from different sources such as cotton, wool, and hemp and so on. But no matter what it was made from the reason for using them was to make a comfortable and protective piece of clothing. Making of textiles has always been a difficult process. Even though that was the case, manufacturers tried to improve the quality.

The amount of improvement that has been made in the manufacture of textiles is incredible. Humans have long since left the use of basic materials such as bark and leaves. To see that one need only to look at such things as space suits to believe that. One of the major reasons that waspssible is the discovery of synthetics or polyester for the use of clothes.

With the arrival of synthetic material, which is made from petroleum based products, there was no limit to the variations of what could be done. One such by-product is faux fur. Faux fur is made from synthetic fibers to feel and look like real fur. It became commercially available in the 1950’s. Today faux fur is back in style and is widely used to make faux fur vests.

Origin Of The Bedroom Slippers

Friday, March 5th, 2010

According to the internet one of the first mentions of bedroom slippers was about 1674. Be sure they have been with us much longer than that. When did they take on such magnitudes of silliness and ridiculous demeanor. I firmly place the blame on those trappers and hunters that left the bits of fuzz and fur around the edges. This was the start to what has now become an almost hysterical sensibility around bedroom and house apparel.

Now please, don’t get me wrong I like a faux fur clad foot covering as much as the next but sometimes it goes to far and at the wrong time. Say you have a romantic evening at home. Maybe order in some great food, open a bottle or two of your favorite beverage and then perhaps a movie. When you are pretty sure there will be no reason to go outside then its time to put on some comfy clothes some big sweat pants maybe an oversized tee an extra pair of socks and then out comes your better half in something sexy and massive plush red cartoon character bootie slippers. Now if you can keep yourself from laughing your doing pretty good. If you can completely pretend they don’t exist your just fine but like me you probably have to make what you think is a funny offhanded comment. And then thats it, its all over.

One evening as I was strolling about in New York Cities Bowery area I spied a small bar at the end of an alley way. It was dark and a bit foreboding but I could hear faint laughter and the high pitched banter of some ladies. My curiosity got the best of me and I headed on down to the end of this shadowy strip. As I approached the open air establishment I could smell something like a mixture of fruit maybe apricots and a hint of sulfur. When I got close enough to see the patrons of this unusual venue I noticed they were all wearing plush animal outfits except one girl. A Interestingly attractive young female in full body light blue fuzzy pajamas with attached bootie slippers was trying to place an order at the bar. I walked up next to her introduced myself and immediately asked what sort of a place this was. “Oh we just got done shooting a video come have a drink with us they don’t bite, usually, I promise.” Anyway she lied.

The situation in its entirety with the fuzzy slippers has really gotten me down. I just get irritated when I see people wearing those plush oversized slippers or really shoes with fur of any kind. Boots with some fur is all right they fit if the great out of doors. When I see someone with slippers I feeling like there may have been an emergency forcing them outside or maybe the are lost after walking in their sleep.

The present direction of footwear has been heading into this furry little tangent for a moment. All I can presently do is watch in horror and shake my head every time another friend is captivated by the bedroom slippers that have somehow made it outside. Sure they might be comfy and on some people anything would look good give them plastic bags to put over there slippers. Just because they look good on you doesn’t mean they are the perfect gift for your frumpy grandmother or your lumberjack boyfriend.

Leggings are being worn by women and men around the world now and in the past. If you have no idea, they have been worn for centuries. Leggings are a type of fitted clothing covering the legs. Initially, they were used for protection of the weather made of leather and used one for each leg. Leggings Are The Hottest Thing In Fashion

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Leggings are described as tight pieces of clothing that can be worn by both sexes. They have been called various names all through out the ages and were a popular clothing item for it’s capability to protect ones self from cold weather. At one time they were known as hose and it was generally 2 pieces of cloth, each for one leg.

In some countries where there is long periods of winter leggings made out of wool were used all the way up until recent times both as a outer and inner clothing because of its before mentioned quality of keeping one warm. In Europe women wore a piece of clothing that is very similar to the modern day legging.

We can see that the use of leggings in different shapes and forms existed in many cultures of the word. The cowboys of America liked them while riding their horses and starting some where around the late 1800’s it was used by military forces of various countries. By the 1960’s the attitude changed towards leggings from just another piece of clothing to something that was fashionable.

This type of legging that started in the 60’s was a modern version of the Capri and was tight and figure hugging and calve length. Those were usually made from cotton -Lycra blend and did not have shiny look to them like modern day leggings that were designed more for slender women. With arrival of the 1980’s all that changed.

With the 80,s they began experimenting with nylon and spandex material, which made leggings popular up until the mid 1990’s. After the mid 90’s they went out of style but have made a big comeback since, with all sorts of sizes, colors and styles. I looks as though leggings for women will never have to look back and will remain a mainstay of peoples wardrobe.

How To Install Interior Window Shutters With Outside Mounts

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Privacy in your home from prying eyes on the outside has always been important to people. There are a variety of different types of window treatments that people use to keep that privacy. They use curtains, drapes, blinds and shades. These are great to keep out the sun on hot days as well as give your home privacy when wanted. Probably one of the least used type would be window shutters for the inside of the house. Most people think of the outside of the house when it comes to shutters.

There is no reason that you can not use window shutters to add privacy. Not only do they provide great privacy but they also add a unique elegance to the room as well. Depending upon what style you get, they can add a lot more to your window treatment than other types, especially blinds.

If you come to the decision that you might like to try to add shutters to the inside of your windows, below you will find easy steps that will make your job of installing your shutters a lot easier.

There are a variety of different types of things that you will need in order for you to complete this project. You will need the shutters of course, the hardware that comes with your shutters, a saw, screwdriver, paint or stain, polyurethane, paint brush, tape measure. Depending upon what kind of shutters you get will determine the materials that you will need to be able to complete the project. The ones mentioned here are the most commonly required items.

Before you begin you need to decide whether or not you want the window shutters to be installed on the inside of the window or if you would rather have them as outside mounts. Since the window frames are rarely perfectly square, probably the easier route would be to use an outside mount.

We will go with the outside mount here for easier installation, this will take less time and gives you more flexibility with regards to how you hang the shutters. With outside mounts you can hang shutters vertically or horizontally.

The first thing that you will do is mount your hanging strips along each side of the frame of the window. Now you will take the shutter panels and hinge them together with face mount hinges that are supplied by the company that made the shutters. Make sure you have a spacer between each of the shutter panels so that you will be able to close the shutters easily.

Now you will take the hinges and connect them to the shutters, make sure to follow the shutters manufacturers instructions on how to place the hinges on the shutters. You will now want to make sure to mark holes on the hanging strips so that you will know where to connect the hinges at. Once you have done that, you can go ahead and drill holes for the screws for the hinges.

The final installation step is to actually attach the shutters to the hanging strips.

Final note: If you decide to buy unfinished shutters, it is advisable that you paint or stain them before you install them. And if you have louvered shutters it will be a lot less time consuming and easier to use spray paint for these types of shutters.

Since 1981, we are dedicated to delivering excellent service and affordable products. Our customers deserve the best.

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Flip flops are some of the oldest known foot wear. In olden days it was a simple design involving a piece of leather some string or rope that could be attached to the leg or feet.
